Top 10 Reasons I Exercise

I work out for a lot of reasons.  Several years ago I found out that I have a type of arthritis from the rheumatoid family of arthritis'.  It centers mostly on my spine, but can cause problems all over my body including my hips, knees, ankles, and feet.  Working out everyday keeps my joints lubricated so I can continue to move.  So that has to be my first reason, but there are lots more...

1.  I enjoy excercising

2.  I like to talk to my exercise buddies

3.  Beating up my body every morning works out all my aggression (well mostly)

4.  I like to see my progress

5.  I like to start my day early

6. I love routines

7.  I like to see my muscles get toned

8.  I am investing in my future

9.  I want to be able to be active without being out of breath

10.  I hope exercising will help me lose weight

So this is my list of reasons that I exercise.  What's on your list?

Check out Janna's blog for more great fitness tips.

Happy Birthday

Lee and I share a birthday this week.  (He's older than I am though)  We got a birthday card from our daughter, Erin, who is serving as a missionary in Germany.  She wrote that she didn't have time to buy a card and barely had time to make a card, so she sent us this unique two sided card.  On side was for me and one side was for Lee.  I thought she was very clever and the card was darling.  P1060434 P1060435

Big Sidewalk Sale - Thursday - Saturday July 17-19

P1050559 Its CHA trade show time and that means lots of new things.  We need to make room for everything new, so  I went through the store with a fine tooth comb and found lots and lots of great things that we just don't have room for any more.  We're going to drag tables outside and have a sidewalk sale.  I have all kinds of great things on sale for 50% off, so hurry in to find the best bargains.

Wedding Update

With just 5 weeks until the big day.  Mild panic is setting in.  Megan and I both had bra fittings today.  If you have never done that, you should.  It saves so much time trying to figure out your size.  Megan had her dress fitted.  It is going to be uniquely Megan.  She is going to be wearing a simple, short white dress.  We found a vintage 1964 wedding dress pattern on Etsy that has a square neckline, empire waist and puffy sleeves.  No lace, no beads, no buttons, just a satin dress with sheer overlay.  Oh yeah, she is going to be wearing her favorite cowboy boots.  She inherited her great-grandfather's cowboy boots and she really wanted to wear them, but they are a little big and she figured that she didn't want her feet to hurt on her wedding day, so we are going to put a flower arrangement in them.

Today we tied bows around Mason Jars that have her favorite sunflower seeds in them (Spitz).  They will go on each picnic table with sunflowers and  colored pencils (more on that another time).

We are still in need of jam, jelly, salsa etc, jars.  Any jar that you use in your kitchen and throw in your recycling containter we need.  Remember re-using is better than recycling!  If you have any jars that you want to donate to our wedding, just bring them in next time you come to Lasting Memories.

Fitness Friday

Fitness Friday

Today is our first Fitness Friday.  Let me explain what Fitness Friday is.  Several months ago when we found out that Megan was getting married this summer, I decided that I would like to be a better looking mother of the bride.  I wanted to be in better shape.  At my age, losing weight has become a big challenge.  (Actually at any age)  But I knew that if you tone your fat, it hangs better.  So I started working out a little longer and a little more often.  Janna, my daughter, is a fitness nut and decided to take me on as a project.  She and I work out together, either before or after my regular workouts, and she has become my personal trainer.  She also nags me about food and makes my lunch so I won’t eat unhealthy at work.  She even scolds people for feeding me chocolate.

After several weeks of working out together, we decided 2 things:

  1. Its easier to get fit if you are doing it with someone
  2. It’s really inspiring to go back and see the progress that you have made as you work on getting fit.  You can’t see much day to day, but over time its pretty amazing the changes you can see.

We decided to include all of you in out Fitness Challenge.  We will be blogging and encouraging all of you to work on your own health and fitness over the next 12 weeks.

Janna is going to keep up her own blog filled with tips, tricks, encouragement and forms to fill out to track progress.  I will be blogging each Friday with my own challenges and encouragement.

We hope that you decide to join us in getting fit.  It’s funner together.

I was looking for a picture of Mrs. Grossman the other day and came across a series of photos that I took last time I was working on weight loss.  It was really fun to see them and remember how skinny I felt when I lost 10 pounds.  I took a series of pictures with a sign telling me how many days I had been of my diet.

This time I am taking photos too, this time it will be one each week for 12 weeks.

Week1_2

Your challenge this week is to take a “before” picture.  You might even want to get it blown up and posted somewhere visible to remind you of your fitness goals.  For more on goals see Janna’s blog.

Don't miss meeting Mrs. Grossman

We are so lucky to have Andrea Grossman visit our store.  She is a wonderful role model for any woman, in business and in life.  I got an email today that told me that the art department is hard at work on the samples for the class, so stay tuned for pictures of those, but we will be making cards, invitations, tags, party boxes and everyone will get lots of stickers.  It will be a wonderful day.

Here are some photos from our last visit with Mrs. Grossman.P1000514 P1000519

A Bark in the Park

My daughter got these great envelopes to mail her wedding announcements in.  When we got them everyone at the store was really wanted them.  They mimic a brown paper back with a great half circle cut out on the envelope.  We got them in last weekend and Laurie Anderson could hardly wait to take them home and make a mini album with them.  She brought it in for show and tell today and it was so absolutely adorable that I am sharing it with all of you.  Notice all the flaps and journaling tags.P1050511 P1050527 P1050530 P1050528 P1050529

This book belongs to Laurie so it won't be on display in the store, but she will have it with her this week.  Drop by and ask to look at it.  Peanut is her "baby" and she loves to show her off.

Die cut invitations

Invitation Tina has been busy in the die cut center again this week.  Take a look at this darling invitation.  She used the new Doodlebug glitter paper and cut the scalloped card slide as the background for the invitation.  These invitations fit into a standard business size envelope.  Look how darling the flip flops look on the top of this invitation.  They are the perfect embellishment and so easy to make when you use the die cut center.
