It has been a crazy first day of our sale, so I'm taking a little break from the floor to give my feet a rest and to post my last few video tutorials. I couldn't leave all my faithful flower demo attendees hanging! I LOVED seeing you each week for my demos. Thank you for coming to see me each week! Last week was our flower demo finale, and we created three oordinating flowers that fit together in a little cluster. I've made three videos, one for each flower, in case you missed the demo or want to make more. Okay, better get back out there--it's time for the evening rush. Enjoy!
This week Janna took my place to demonstrate the spiral rose for our weekly flower make n' take. In case you missed her, here's the video tutorial I put together to show you how to make these gorgeous flowers. I think these are my favorite we've done so far. Enjoy!
Another Saturday, another flower demo at Lasting Memories! This week's flower was the "box-top flower", named for the way you layer the pieces the same way you do when closing a cardboard box. It's simple and fun! It's easy to change the size by cutting larger or smaller circles and scalloped circles with punches or a die-cutting machine like the Slice. Or come in and pick up a kit--we still have a few left!
Are you mystified by our new
Glimmer Mist?It was one of Jennifer's
favorite things from the CHA trade show.Glimmer Mist is a shimmery spray dye that
comes in tons of colors. We've been using it with all kinds of
bare elements around the store--especially ribbons and flowers.
Jennifer recently learned how to turn this pretty but plain seam binding into a crinkled vintage ribbon. We tried scrunching the ribbon with
water and from there it was just a hop, skip and a jump to spraying it
with
Glimmer Mist.No more bare ribbon! Here's our video tutorial so you can make some for yourself. And don't worry, we have tons of beautiful seam binding and Glimmer Mists in stock!
We nearly sold out of our kits for Saturday's flower demo, teaching our customers how to make this beautiful fabric paper rosette. There's a flower festival going on at the store, and Saturday was our first flower make 'n take event. We showed customers how to make these cool tissue flower balls that we have hanging in the store. We still have a few kits left. You can hang this miniature version from the ceiling like we did with the large variety, or use it atop a gift for a gorgeous presentation. If you missed it on Saturday, here's a tutorial so you can try it out at home. *NEW! We just added a video tutorial!* And don't miss our flower make 'n take for this Saturday, March 6th! It's a fan-fold flower and it's so fun to make!
Tissue Flower Puff Tutorial
Supplies: *10 rectangular sheets tissue paper (our mini flowers started with 10" x 8" sheets) *5-6" length of fishing line, wire, string, or ribbon (longer if you want to hang it) *Scissors
1. Lay out your stack of sheets and start folding accordion-style. Fold the entire length of your sheets, like a fan. The width of your folds will change the look a little, so experiment. Our folds were about 1" wide for the mini puffs.
2. Using scissors, round the two short ends of your folded sheets. Or, try cutting a sharp point or inverted v-shape for a different look.
3. Tie your fishing line around the center of your fan tightly. Leave a long end if you want to hang your puff.
4. Start "puffing" your flower by separating your tissue sheets.
5. Continue until your flower is nice and round. Leave one side flat if you want to use it to top a gift.
6. Another great idea--string a series of puff ball flowers into a cute garland! I simply stapled my puffs onto a piece of ribbon. Easy peasy!
Enjoy the spring goodness--these flowers will make you happy! And don't forget to join us this Saturday from 11-1 to learn to make another fun folded flower!
Last week I noticed a huge roll of Velcro in the stock room and wondered what in the world we would be doing with it. Then I saw this ingenious invention Jennifer created.
Strips of Velcro on a piece of chipboard are the perfect way to store Stickles upside down. Why would you want to do that? Have you ever had to repeatedly shake your Stickles to get the flow going? No more shaking! The bottle is primed and ready to go every time. Plus, look how neatly they are organized? Genius.
And yes, we will sell you some Velcro if you want it. Just ask!
